There is a peculiar characteristic that distinguishes reptiles. A unique feature that enables them to be reformed as it were. A process of scale shedding – where old skin is replaced by new underlying skin or scales. This process occurs for two main purposes – getting rid of parasites and for growth.
Why am I giving you this boring Biology lecture? My hope is that it at least fascinates you how amazing these creatures were created. But beyond that, there is something about this process that can be paralleled to our experiences in life.
I think I came across a short inspiring video by an Asian-language-speaking young man sometime over the week – you might have seen it. Of the many things he said, the one thing that stood out to me was the theme of how every new challenge we face inspires a new and better version of us. And that set the reels of my retrospect mind rolling – as I gradually began to cite past experiences and match them in agreement to his words – sorry I just went all poetic on you. But I’m sure you not only get it but hopefully can relate to it like I did.
It took me watching a video and reading up on this mystery title that suddenly dropped in my spirit as a title for the next blog post, to really understand what this is about. But here is the deal – our experiences in life and particularly challenges we face lead us through a scale shedding process. For example, if you have ever lost someone very dear to you, that process from extreme emotional pain to progressive healing can be described as scale shedding. There’s a new version of you that emerges from your in-built ability to adapt and thrive accordingly. Think of that new project that you had to embark on that required you changing your lifestyle or habits – you were shedding scales!
Now the beautiful thing about this process is that this new you had always been lying there all along but until those ‘parasites’ came to attack there was no need for the current you to be scaled off. There was a need to grow and that was why you needed to go through the painful process. By the way did you know that humans shed dead skin cells of up to a million a day? – but anyways in the same bid your character and personality needs to shed off old cells of hurt, bitterness and defeat from every new challenge faced for the new you to take over.
2 Corinthians 4:7 says “7 But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us”. 2 Corinthians 3:18(KJV) also says, “18 But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.”
There’s a glory and treasure that is inside of you, don’t cower under that challenge! It may be a painful process, it might take a while and a whole lot of patience but set your gaze firmly on what God’s testimony about you is! Don’t dare lose hope because the new you is waiting to emerge – a more glorious you! A new you version X(latest update).0!!
